Description

Humans are recent tenants on an ancient Earth. Understanding Earth's remarkable history is enlightening yet humbling. Earth's history provides a critical lens for evaluating environmental science issues of our modern world. In this course, we studied the evolution of Earth from its fiery beginning over 4.5 billion years ago to the present day. We explored the physical and biological evolution of Earth focusing on the major extinction events that shaped the evolution of life on Earth.  We also learned how geologists reconstruct Earth history and as well as predict the future.  Students were supposed to read Steven Stanley’s textbook “Earth System History” and other readings provided. Students completed biweekly assignments based on the readings, classroom presentations, and discussions.
