Description

Elementary Chinese I: This course is taught by a visiting professor of Chinese from the Hampshire College China Exchange program, C. Zhu and supervised by Professor Kay Johnson. This course, along with Chinese 0112-2 in the spring semester, is an elementary introduction to Mandarin Chinese. The class takes an integrated approach to basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and it emphasizes pronunciation and the tones, Chinese character handwriting, and the most basic structure and patterns of Chinese grammars. There are three lecture meetings (M.W.F) and two drill sessions (T. Th.) each week. There is also a quiz of each chapter. Required books are: Integrated Chinese Textbook Level 1, Part 1; Integrated Chinese Workbook Level 1, Part 1; Integrated Chinese Character Workbook, Level 1, Part 1.
