Description

CSI/HACU 237 Fictions of Childhood was an interdisciplinary course that combined critical approaches to childhoods with critical studies of literature. We read literary texts written for adults that feature children as subjects together with texts written for a young audience. We explored questions about the representation of children and childhoods: children's agency; memory, loss, displacement, and resilience; imagination and language; and the diversity of childhood experiences.  The penultimate unit of the course involved group presentations on a pair of related texts for middle-school readers.
