Description

This course was primarily for a relatively small group of more advanced students to pursue field studies in terrestrial ecology, take field trips, and complete readings from primary literature. We used the Hampshire College forests and fields, the canopy walkway, the Farm Center, and off-campus sites as our study areas. We were outside as much as possible and visited several habitats and locations of interest. We also carried out investigations of several field problems and small sampling projects, potentially focusing on studies of vegetation, birds, insects and other invertebrates, and salamanders, among others. Previous studies in biology were required.
