Description | This studio introduces the formal and typological orders of architecture, emphasizing the comprehension of spatial delineators as abstract entities and the theoretical development of design concepts. Students will develop a critical understanding of architecture's motivating factors and evaluate the physical forms of buildings and their spatial configurations. A sequence of design exercises challenge students to analyze building precedents and transform them as a credible stage for future architectures. Additionally, students will consider how current social and cultural phenomena can influence and transform traditional notions of architecture. Students will be introduced to a variety of visual communication skills including modeling building, diagramming, and drawing to graphically and verbally convey design intentions. Students will be required to participate in at least one workshop day outside of class time aimed at improving upon these skills. This course combines lectures, readings, discussions and critique to foster a creative and vibrant studio culture. |
